I was told by Harmar that this was the correct lift for my Invacare TDX-SP which is around the limit of 400 lbs. I have burned out one lift motor already. In all fairness they did replace it with a larger motor but I still had to pay to have it installed. It is extremely slow taking approximately 40 seconds to get it into the back of my pickup (Frontier). I can't lift it without the motor running as it takes all 14 volts to lift it. I have had it three years now and the lifting strap just broke. Luckily it did so while the chair was a few inches off the truck bed. There was nothing in the manual recommending replacement periodically just cjeck it for twisting and wear which it did not appear to have just fading. It is easy to replace but since my chair is valued at $28,000 I would think they would tell you how long you should expect it to last. Mine is exposed to the elements which according to Harmar is OK but I suspect that is why it failed. I have used it to lift smaller chairs and it works fine for them but if you have a heavy chair close to 400 lbs. don't buy this lift. Personally I don't think this lift is suitable for pickup trucks as advertised as the lift is just to far a reach. It also pulled the bed panel from the weld seam and had to be repaired.
