Jazzy Select Elite Power Chair Powerchair - Demo Open Box Review

I've been driving my Jazzy Select Elite chair for a couple of months now. It's both comfortable and so far dependable. It is advertised to be a fraction narrower than the Hoveround Chair, and this is important if you have narrow doors. Unless you need width, be sure you don't get the larger (by 2 inches) seat because it'll reduce your door clearances. In fact, to stay at narrow as the base you need to adjust the arms to the narrowest setting on the standard seat. This should give you about 19" inside measurement at the armrests.

The chair is well balanced and can be entered from the front by standing on the foot platform close to the chair and placing your hand (and some weight) on an armrest. This is the just short of the balance point for me and it doesn't rock forward on the front safety wheels. Easier still, raise one armrest, sit from the side and swivel your body forward. Maneuvering is intuitive with the joystick control for forward and back. Left rotates counterclockwise and right, like a clock. Since the drive wheels are forward of your center, you can rotate in the direction necessary to move your shoulder closer for reaching things. This feature also allows a little zig-zag motion for extra clearance when you driving too near an obstacle.

The height of the chair can be adjusted by raising the pedestal piece on the base before inserting the chair. I'm tall but found that the highest possible setting (with the through bolt under and not through the pedestal piece) allows the pedestal piece to slip in its friction clamp and cause the chair occasionally to get twisted relative to the base. Also, while to highest setting feels good for long legs, it may be a little too tall when entering the chair from the side.

I like the chair so much that I bought a second one for the second floor of my home. And its available on Amazon for far less than the Medicare people think is an appropriate price!
