I wake up hungry. Not just hungry, I am driven from sleep by hunger. Breakfast is healthy and I like to get my system functioning within an hour after getting out of bed. That gives me time to get up and make my breakfast and coffee and eat.

This is a max-DHA omega-3 product from Jarrows. Each gel capsule contains 250mg DHA and 65mg EPA. Personally, I don't have a preference for EPA-DHA ratios. A description of the benefits of EPA and DHA is beyond the scope of this simple review so I'll just stick with this product.

The omega-3 from this product is from calamari or squid oil, which is a new source that I haven't seen before, but omega-3 is omega-3 and fish or squid don't synthesize it anyway, it comes from algae. And since squid is a carnivore, I suppose they must be getting it from algae eating fish. The manufacturer tells me that the O-3 is of the triglyceride type sourced from Norway. The soft gel is made in the USA.

The capsule is a deep red color, colored with carob as a light barrier. I was surprised to see how small it was. See customer image comparing it to a 1000mg fish oil capsule. But then I realized that 1200mg is a weight/mass measure not a volume measure and interestingly enough DHA has a higher molecular weight than EPA.

Value:
DPA and EHA are the most useful fatty acids so I typically look at the total amount of DHA+EPA in a bottle and divide by price. In this case, there is 315mg per capsule and 90 capsules per bottle = 28.35g per bottle. Divide the price by 28.35g and you will have the cost per gram of DPA/EHA. And you can use this number to compare against other brands.

Taste: Taste is very good. It has a light rosemary flavor, nothing of squid that I could discern at all. I typically crush the capsule in my mouth and swallow the oil and this has a light herbal flavor which is very nice.

If you are looking for a high DHA to EPA ratio, then give this one a try.
