Maxorb Extra Ag is a highly absorbent, non woven pad composed of a high G (guluronic acid) calcium alginate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and ionic silver. Exposure to wound exudate dissolves the silver and stimulates the release of silver ions. As more fluid is absorbed over time, more silver ions are released, creating a controlled-release antimicrobial effect. The silver ions protect from a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including MRSA and VRE. Plus Maxorb Extra Ag releases silver extremely small amounts that do not damage healthy tissue. Maxorb Extra Ag is biocompatible, non-irritating, non-sensitizing and will not harm new granulation tissue. Sheet 4" x 4.75".

These Maxorb Extra Ag, Alginate wound covers are a very good absorbent dressing for stubborn wounds that are at risk of becoming infected. I have an active Pyoderma Gangrenosum (don't look that up on a full stomach) condition that manifests in large slow healing sores, sometimes similar to diabetic leg ulcers.

These dressings are silver infused alginate sheets that turn somewhat gummy and releases small amounts of antibacterial silver when in contact with wound drainage. I have noticed significantly better healing since we started using these and they seem to making a real difference. We cover these with Mepilex Lite Wound Care Foam Dressing w/ Safetac (4" X 4") 5 Sheets/box as the main wound covering.

We also cover the whole dressing with Restore Odor-Absorbent Dressing - 4 x 4" - Box of 10, which significantly reduces the noticeable smell from infected wounds.

We get these directly from my "Wound Care" specialist so they are covered by my insurance, for which I am very thankful.
