I was in the market and looking to spend under $20 for a heating pad to replace my previous one which had to have been better than 20 years old -- and the Jarden fit the bill. Quite honestly, I don't know anything about heating pads other than the obvious fact that they heat up and provide welcome relief to aching or sprained muscles, but the reviews which I read on some of the cheaper heating pads were quite helpful in assuring me that they were not what I was looking for or would perform to my satisfaction.

My Jarden arrived several days after placing my order, and the very next day it was put to good use and the test for a back sprain which I had unexplainably received. It performed superbly for me. The Jarden heats up to the temperature setting you select (which for me was High) rather quickly -- I would say about 3-4 minutes, which was about how long it took for my old heating pad to heat up. The "High" setting gets quite warm, but I could feel the Jarden regulate the temperature so as not to get super hot to burn or redden the skin, which my old heating pad would often do to my skin.

In my opinion, the Jarden provides a nice soothing and relieving heat. For my own personal preference I unbuttoned the blue cloth cover and removed the thin styrofoam-like sheet inside for a more direct heat. I do not have arthritis, but I can see where the raised sliding control button would be beneficial to those with arthritic hands or fingers as the product description states. The 12X15 size, which is actually almost 2 inches bigger in both directions than my old heating pad, heats up uniformly throughout and provides good coverage. It also has a long power cord which is also a nice feature.

Of course, I cannot promise or say if the Jarden heating pad will survive or outlast my last heating pad, but with a price tag of under 20 bucks it is worth every penny for those times when you need some soothing comfort and relief for those sore, aching, or sprained muscles which seem to crop up unexpectedly out of nowhere! I would recommend the Jarden heating pad to anyone looking for an affordable heating pad -- and that gets the job done!
