Knee Length Anti-Embolism Stockings for Continuing Care [TED stocking knee high BLK SM-REG] Review
Here are some things you need to know before purchasing any brand of compressional sock. (this is based on my experience, reading on the internet and a discussion with my doctor. I have no medical training.) Compressional socks should generally be tightest at your ankle and then while compressing the rest of your leg, a bit looser at the calf. Otherwise the socks will hurt and you probably won't wear them. Compressional socks come in different pressures: 1 to 15 mmhg is the lowest compression. 15 to 20 mmhg is the next level. These two pressures are considered the low pressures. For the medium to high compressions, you need a prescription and no matter what pressure it's best to be fitted for the sock.1. Your shoe size or sock size is not important in picking the size of compression socks compared to 3 other factors.
2. The three other factors are calf size, length of leg from bend of knee to bottom of heel and then the ankle width or size.
3. So when selecting compressional socks, most important and determining factor over all is the calf size or circumference. 2nd factor is that 'length of leg' measurement.
Good brands will base the size on the calf and then offer that size in different lengths.
For example, I did a lot of long distance bicycling in my 30's. My calfs are still very big and muscular. I need a compressional sock in a large or extra large with preferable a short length. Yet I wear a size 7 1/2 shoe.
So again, be aware, determine your calf size and buy your socks on that basis. If you have short legs like I do, you may just have to buy the shortest length available in the large or extra large calf size and deal with the extra length.
