LBL Lighting Linea Under Cabinet Light, Silver Review
We bought this product from a local store because we had a very small basement bathroom and so needed a narrow light which was a limited length. This light appeared to fit the bill perfectly. Then we got ...
1) Despite the product specification, it is not "just" 1 1/2 inches wide. There is a base plate that, according to our electrician and according to the product itself, is required. This circular baseplate has a radius of ~3in (I think ... I would have to look again). For us, this was actually too big and we had to have it slightly cut. So we felt a bit misled by the product documentation / advertising and for the cost of this light, we were not happy to feel misled
2) The product documentation on the measurments is actually wrong. Again, our space was really tight. We actually found out about the baseplate before the layout was really locked down so we could do very slight adjustments (and did) but then it turned out the radius of the circle was something like ~1/8in different from the documentation. For hardware this is really unacceptable. This was resolved by us trimming the baseplate to fit.
3) This was the real clincher that has made us hate these lights for a very long time. Apparently, if you use a normal size wire nut to attach the wires, then when you put attach the fixture down, the wire nuts can put pressure on the safety switch that is in the center of the light. This extra pressure is enough so that when trying to put in the bulb, the bulb breaks instead of being able to push the safety switch down. It is apparent that this is happening but as an owner you have no idea if you have done something wrong, bought a defective unit, or if the product is just not good. The store we bought it from came out and eventually fixed it (they figured out what was wrong, switched up the wire nuts, and made sure that the safety switch could push in easily) but not before we broke ~5 bulbs because people kept telling us to be more "gentle". That of course made us more upset ... I am no genius but if a bulb is so difficult that I can't put it in, then the light / bulb is very poor and so the idea that I was somehow "doing it wrong" was not making me happy. Of course we were busy with other things so it took ~9 months before we got this fixed. :(
In the end, the product is and working and looks nice but it was a headache getting there. I feel like giving it below 3 stars would mean that I really am not happy with the final product. Perhaps if you read this review you will be able to avoid the headaches we hit and be very happy with this product.
